Staff at Calder Vets are hoping pedal power will prove they are the wheel deal when it comes to fund-raising, as they prepare to take on a 60-mile charity cycle ride.
The Tour de Calder Vets is taking place on Sunday, 24th September and will see riders pass near all 12 of Calder Vets branches across Yorkshire.
Depending on ability, riders will cover distances between four miles and the full 60 miles, with the aim to raise money for two charities close the hearts of staff at Calder.
The first charity to benefit from the money – which will be split equally – is Hope Pastures, which rescues, rehabilitates and re-homes horses, ponies and donkeys, as well as giving people the opportunity to meet the animals and find out how they look after them.
Hope Pastures was chosen as a touching tribute to former Calder Vets colleague Lynsey Bacon, who unexpectedly passed away late last year.
Kylie Greenwood, from Calder Vets, said: “Lynsey was passionate about horses and their welfare, so we hope to raise plenty of cash to help this charity continue its amazing work.”
The second charity to benefit from the Calder Vets cycle tour will be Vetlife, which provides a free 24/7 service offering emotional, financial and mental health support to everyone in the veterinary community, including vet nurses and students.
